Metro is improving the reliability of its elevators and escalators.
Statistics from the transit agency show that more than 95 percent of Metro's 588 escalators were available in January. That's up from about 88 percent in July 2006.
That beats Metro's goal of having 93 percent of escalators available.
Meanwhile, elevator service improved from about 93 percent in July 2006 to 97 percent in January, approaching Metro's service goal of 97.5 percent. The transit agency has 230 elevators.
General Manager John Catoe acknowledged the improvements last month, but told a Board of Directors committee that the agency could be more consistent about placing signs when there are mechanical breakdowns.
