A Virginia judge has dismissed a case against a former Maryland corrections official who was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Rose Merchant was arrested by Fairfax County (web|news) police in February. She was then fired from her job as deputy director of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections.

After reviewing a video from a camera mounted in a police car, Fairfax General District Court Judge Ian O'Flaherty told prosecutors they had no case. In the recording, Merchant is heard telling police that she is a "public safety person" and specifying her job. But she doesn't call herself a law enforcement officer.
