Two people were arrested in the fifth district Friday night after police heard gunshots go off in the area.

D.C. Assistant Police Chief Dian Groomes said 5D unites were in the area of Saratoga when they heard gunshots on Brentwood Road. Officers said they saw two males leaving the scene in a green car.

The officers followed the car and the suspects bailed out, according to police. The officers chased them down on foot and arrested both of them. Police said they recovered two guns.

A victim was found with a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Friday nights arrests comes the same day Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas, Jr., Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes and Fifth District Commander Lamar Greene announced a plan to address a number of murders in the ward five area. The police department doubled the amount of officers in high-impact areas.
