A caravan of truckers protesting rising fuel prices arrived at the site of their protest more than two hours late Monday after getting stuck in traffic in suburban Maryland.
The group, Truckers and Citizens United, drove into Washington Monday morning. They traveled past the White House and Capitol before holding a rally on the Capitol lawn.
Ron Wenger is an organizer with the group. He says they have a procession of about 350 vehicles -- including trucks, buses and cars. They had hoped to drive into D.C. by 9 a.m. but were held up on Interstate 270. They arrived in D.C. about 11:30 a.m.
The drivers plan to park their trucks at RFK Stadium and then march and take shuttles over to the Capitol.
They're calling on Congress to stop subsidizing big oil companies, release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, end exports of oil from Alaska and regulate transportation brokers and fees paid to truckers.
