The Maryland Chamber of Commerce is expected Tuesday to formally call for approval of the November referendum that would legalize slot machines in the state.
The chamber's board of directors voted last week to formally to endorse the proposal.
The chamber has backed slots since the issue was debated during the Ehrlich administration.
Chamber spokesman Will Burns says the state can expect more budget cuts, higher taxes, or both, if the slots referendum fails. He says the chamber has not decided whether to give financial help to the pro-slots campaign.
