WASHINGTON - There are certain moments in your life that, once they happen, you play them over and over and over again in your mind. That moment happened for a Diva Granny during the Washington Divas football game against Baltimore this weekend.
Tessa Nelson is a female football player and a grandmother. And she created one magic, breathtaking moment on the field against her teams' archrivals.
Her cleats are just fine, but the grandma who wears them is still sore.
"I'm recovering," she said. "Soaking in ice and ... heat.
Tessa Nelson plays defensive line for the D.C. Divas. Saturday night, she made the play of a lifetime.
"One of my teammates came off the end and tackled her and she tried to throw the ball out to me, it bounced in my hands and I took off running as fast as I could," Nelson said. "it just seemed line an eternity to the endzone."
Eighty yards later, Tessa had the first touchdown of her seven-year career. All she needed was some air.
"It looked just like the guys, you know, after a lineman runs a long way and he needs oxygen. So it was kind of cool, I guess."
For this 40-year-old athlete, the only thing better than a TD is is her six --- soon-to-be seven-- grandchildren...
"It's the most wonderful feeling in the world," Nelson said.
Tessa hopes to show other grandparents that it's never too late to chase a dream - even when it's far away.
"I would just say, if you have a passion, put your all in it and see what happens," she said.
The Divas beat Baltimore 33-0.
