LANDOVER HILLS, Md. - A car shot through the front of a store in a Landover Hills shopping center, shattering glass, ripping out the facade and leaving tenants asking why does it keep happening.
In fact, tenants of the shopping center say this is the third time in just months a car has rammed its way into a store. Today, it took out the entire front of Chandler's medical supplies.
"If she had been two minutes earlier she would have killed three people," said Tony Fitzgerald, AI Pawn.
The car hit with such force it took out the entire front window, door and metal frame. Blanketed in shattered glass, the car then lodged against a wall inches from a gas line. The tires kept rolling until a man from a neighboring store pulled an elderly woman out from behind the wheel.
"She was really shaken up basically panting she was really really disoriented," the man said.
The driver apparently became confused and stepped on the gas instead of the brake. The manager of the medical supply store says the store usually has two or three customers inside and they are mostly senior citizens.
"Three people had just left about two minutes before she came through that front door it could have been much more serious," said Ted Decker, owner of Chandler's Medical Supply.
Just a few weeks ago a car hit a store a few doors down from Chandler's.
"Three car accidents with people driving up into the buildings within the past year. Crazy...it is it really is," said Sean Givens of Bill's Hardware.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
