Work to Begin On Youth Facility in Anne Arundel Co.
   posted 5:47 am Tue May 01, 2007 - BALTIMORE
Work is about to begin on a new 60-bed facility in Anne Arundel County where Washington, D.C., plans to house young offenders. It will replace the existing Oak Hill juvenile prison nearby. But word Monday that construction was imminent came as news to Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold, who said he had hoped a site for the new facility would be found inside the District.

Legislation introduced in March by Senators Cardin and Mikulski would move Oak Hill to Washington and hand over half of the property to the county. A Cardin spokeswoman said Monday that the district government had not notified Cardin's office of its plans.
