Virginia Tech Hands Out Rings, Degrees To Families of Shooting

In an address to about 600 of the nearly 12-hundred graduate students who received master's degrees, President Charles Steger spoke to the community's grief. He encouraged the graduates to be proud of their accomplishments and hopeful for their futures - even as they grieved.
He says ... quote ... "Our hearts are saddened and our minds are troubled." A larger ceremony for some 36-hundred graduating seniors is taking place this evening.
At that ceremony, the school plans to issue class rings to relatives of the 26 slain students. Diplomas will come at smaller ceremonies Sunday.
