Two New Members of DC Council To Be Sworn In
posted 9:26 am Tue May 15, 2007 - Washington
Two weeks after they won special elections in the District's fourth and seventh wards, the newest members of the DC Council will be sworn in tonight.
DC Council Chairman Vincent Gray will preside over a swearing in ceremony in the council chamber of the John A. Wilson Building at 7 p.m.
Murial Bowser will be sworn in by Superior Court Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby. Yvette Alexander will take the oath of office from Judge Mary Godden Terrell.
Bowser defeated 18 challengers to win the Ward Four seat formerly held by Mayor Adrian Fenty. Alexander beat out 16 challengers for the Ward Seven seat formerly held by Council Chairman Vincent Gray.
Turnout in both May first special elections was extremely light.
The swearing in of the two new members will bring the council to its full strength of 13, including eight members elected to ward seats and six at-large members, including the chairman.
