The Washington Nationals put right-handed reliever Chad Cordero on the 15-day disabled list with a torn lat muscle Friday and activated catcher Paul Lo Duca off the DL.

Cordero is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks by the injury, which is to a muscle below his pitching shoulder.

The move, retroactive to April 30, is his second trip to the disabled list this season. He has a 2.08 ERA in 4 1-3 innings.

Cordero's closing duties are being handled by Jon Rauch, who earned his sixth save in eight opportunities in a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

Lo Duca went on the DL on April 18 after his right hand was bruised when he was hit by a pitch. He is returning after a three-game rehab assignment at Single-A Potomac.

The catcher is hitting .200 (7-for-35) with four RBIs in 12 games with Washington this season.

The Nationals are carrying three catchers at the moment, with Lo Duca, Johnny Estrada and Wil Nieves.
