Police say two 13-year-old boys broke into Calverton Middle School through a window on Sunday, while some staff members were working inside.
Authorities say one of the students tried to sexually assault a female teacher in an office, she fought him off, and both boys fled.
And people affiliated with the school are outraged.
"Its ridiculous. It's really sad," said parent Sharanda Crayton.
"I mean it's really troubling, you know, to hear these things," said parent Constance Busby.
"Why would you try to go into the school and try to rape one of your teachers? Someone that provides you learning. That teaches you things. Why would you try to rape them? If anything you should want to respect them," said student Taneja Wilson.
Recent neighborhood violence even led to the principal here to reportedly tell staff to leave work before dark.
"I would say this is a crisis right now," said Teachers Union Co-President Marietta English.
English says the level of violence against staff has reached appalling levels.
The school system reports more than 100 student attacks against staff this year, but English says the number is closer to 400, because so many cases are unreported.
She says the latest incident is beyond comprehension.
"It's very disturbing that he didn't even feel he had to run out of the school when he found out there was someone else in the building outside of his friend. And then to walk back into school Monday as though nothing had happened," said English.
Both students face a long list of juvenile charges, including attempted first degree rape and attempted robbery.
The state of violence in Baltimore City School is so acute a task force was recently formed to try to solve this societal issue.
