D.C. police have charged three students after a fight broke out at Ballou High School shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday.
One person was taken away in an ambulance.
Investigators are questioning an additional five students.
Police and school officials told ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 reporter Sam Ford they believe Thursday's fight was triggered by rival neighborhood groups who rekindled a fight that first broke out Wednesday night on a Metro bus after school.
"Apparently, we had males and females start fighting each other over what the incident was yesterday," said Metropolitan Police Department (web|news) Assistant Chief Diane Groomes. "At this time, we have several juveniles in custody, being charged with assault and we have others that we are going to question to figure out exactly what's going on."
Several students are being held in a mediation session in hopes the situation can be resolved before it further escalates.
