A mother and son from Sterling were charged with stealing over $8,000 in items from Home Depot.
Victor Martinez and his mother, Reina Martinez were arrested after a search through their home by police revealed numerous items from Home Depot.
Victor allegedly used his job as a cashier to help his mother steal major items that included flooring, doors, windows, and bathroom fixtures. Reina allegedly would bring the items up to the register where her son was working. It is alleged that then the son would neglect to scan the items or scan them and then void the transaction.
The Home Depot Loss Prevention Department contacted authorities after they noticed a number of mysterious register transactions.
Reina showed her home to ABC 7 and said "I paid for everything in this room." Police disagreed with her. They said that the 42-year-old Reina and her son Victor, 20, concocted a scheme to steal supplies from Home Depot.
"He has receipt for the doors," Reina proclaimed. Victor showed a stack of store receipts.
"I'm really shocked, but I will tell you this, there's been a lot of construction going on," said neighbor Reggie Mervine.
Another neighbor said she watched workers pull expensive things out of trash bags on the side of the house. When police searched their home Tuesday night, they took away a truckload of items, some they couldn't because they were already installed.
Victor was charged with eight counts of embezzlement and five counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.Reina, was charged with five counts of grand larceny, three counts of petit larceny, and five counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.
The son remains held on a $5000 bond at the Loudoun County (web|news) Sheriff's Office Adult Detention Center. The mother was released on a $5000 bond.
Home Depot had no comment.
