A fire in southeast Washington has left one person dead and a firefighter injured.
Firefighters were called to a garden-style apartment complex just before 8 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of 37th Place, Southeast.
D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter says they found the body badly burned in a first-floor apartment. Investigators say the person who died is a 50-year-old male; however, they have not released his name.
Etter says a firefighter sustained potentially serious burns to his head and ears. The injuries are not life threatening.
Witnesses tell ABC 7/NewsChannel 8's Horace Holmes they could see a woman in a window, but could not get to her. No word on what caused the fire.
The District has had five total fire fatalities this year.
