(Sports Network) - Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein, a member of the United States national team, will miss six to eight weeks with a knee injury, the club announced Saturday. Bornstein, who has made 10 appearances for the U.S., suffered a Grade 2 sprain of the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee in training Thursday. An MRI revealed the extent of the injury, which will not require surgery.
Bornstein is one of three Chivas USA players who have played every minute this season, alongside midfielder Jesse Marsch and goalie Brad Guzan. Bornstein has two assists in the team's first six games.

Bornstein, the 2006 MLS Rookie of the Year, has been an important part of the Chivas USA defense since joining the team, playing 61 games in his career with seven goals and seven assists.
Chivas is already without defender Lawson Vaughn, who successfully underwent a second surgery earlier this week on facial fractures suffered in a match with the Houston Dynamo on May 3. He is expected to miss at least six more weeks.
Chivas USA acquired defender Carey Talley from Real Salt Lake on Friday for a conditional pick in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft in 2010 or 2011 to help fill in for Bornstein and Vaughn.
