Firefighters in Chesapeake Beach say a man and a woman were injured when high winds caused a house to collapse into a second home late Sunday night.
A collapse team from Washington, D.C., assisted with the rescues. The injuries were not considered serious.
Firefighters say trees came down in the high winds, knocking out power in the area. Flooding was reported at a Prince Frederick trailer park.
Maryland Emergency Management Agency spokesman Ed McDonough says Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties were among the hardest hit by the storm. He says some areas had two feet of standing water, and another inch of rain was expected by 10 a.m. Monday.
The National Weather Service (web|news) extended flood warnings by six hours, until 12:15 p.m. Monday, for three counties: Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Prince George's.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported it handled more than 100 calls relating to the storm between 5 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, including calls for wires down, flooding, and trees across roadways.
In Alexandria (web|news), Va., firefighters received numerous calls for flooded basements and trees in roadways. Fire Capt. Luis Santano reported two incidents of trees falling into roofs of houses. One home was unoccupied and the family living in the other spent the night with relatives.
