Negotiations toward a new contract for Frederick County public school teachers are at an impasse.
The school board says negotiators for both sides will ask state schools Superintendent Nancy Grasmick to formally declare an impasse.
The teams will then choose a neutral, third-party mediator to help them come to contract terms for the 2008-09 school year.
The school board and the Frederick County Teachers Association have been negotiating since January.
