A man was shot during the middle of the day Tuesday outside the Global Food grocery store, sending him to the hospital by medical helicopter.

Just before noon, two adult Hispanic males exchanged words at 10320 Festival Lane in Manassas. One of the males shot the other. The victim was flown to an area hospital.

"He was saying 'shoot me, shoot me,' he was probably expecting the other one wasn't going to shoot him, and he shot him," said a witness who didn't want to be identified.

Surveillance video showed a man running with a gun in his right hand, right in front of the store, just seconds after a man was shot near the property. You could even see one customer duck for cover in the video. The suspect was seen leaving the scene of the shooting in a dark-colored SUV. The shooting happened right outside a store on the sidewalk.

"It's crazy, he didn't appear to be wearing a mask or anything. He just shot and ran," said another witness.

One shot was fired and when the gunman ran off, a group of men, including one man who didn't want to be seen on camera, chased after the shooter. "I heard the shots, 'stop him, stop him, stop'  and then two or three other young men went after him. That's when I got out and ran with them."

Prince William County (web|news) Police said the gunman may have arrived at the shopping center with other people. Police were looking for a dark colored SUV.

Stores remained open, while the parking lot turned into a crime scene.

"What if I was here with my kids shopping, something that you don't expect, especially at a grocery store," said a witness," and then it's crazy how we don't know where he is."

A reward was set for the capture of the gunman, in the meantime, the victim is at a local hospital in stable condition.
