District of Columbia transportation officials are planning to shut down the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge on Friday night for operational testing. The Department of Transportation says the bridge is scheduled to be closed Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The rain date is scheduled for Saturday during the same hours. Officials say they will be conducting a full operational test of the bridge's swing span. Drivers will be detoured to the 11th Street bridges. Signs will be put along routes leading to the bridge to alert drivers to alternate routes.
