Voters in a Montgomery County (web|news) Council district have chosen Democrat Don Praisner to fill the council seat left vacant by the death of his wife, Marilyn.
Praisner collected 66 percent of the vote in Tuesday's special election to defeat Republican Mark Fennel. About 11 percent of eligible voters cast ballots.
Marilyn Praisner died in February after heart surgery. She had served 17 years on the council, representing District 4.
Don Praisner is a retired CIA analyst and won the Democratic nomination a four-way primary in April.
Council President Michael Knapp says Praisner will not take office until after the council votes on the next county budget.
