Emergency services officials in Frederick say a truck driver was sent to the hospital following exposure to a hazardous chemical that had spilled inside a trailer.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue spokesman Mike Dmuchowski says the unidentified operator was sent to Frederick Memorial Hospital for observation at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Emergency responders were sent to an industrial park address on Wedgewood Boulevard after a pair of truck operators found the chemical spilled inside the trailer they were picking up.

The spokesman says the substance was believed to be sodium dodecyl sulfate, which can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory tract and may cause an allergic reaction.
