District of Columbia officials are seeking a mix of shops and housing for a 50-acre site along the Anacostia waterfront next to RFK Stadium.
The project is part of a larger effort to increase development near the long-neglected river.
Mayor Adrian Fenty says the city is seeking bids for a master developer for the site known as Hill East, which includes the former D.C. General Hospital campus. Besides shops and housing, administration officials say the site also could feature a "healthplex" that would offer medical services.
Bidding for a developer will close in August, and officials say about three months will be needed to review the proposal. The project is expected to take about 10 years to complete.
