A Waldorf woman was murdered after a domestic dispute about the use of her vehicle.
Police responded to a 911 call from 23-year-old Jasmine Nicole Clark's daughter late Wednesday night. She called police because she found her mother lying on the floor, not breathing, with something around her neck.
Police and EMS personnel arrived at Clark's apartment near Gallery Place around 10:24 pm and transported her to Civista Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Detectives began an investigation into Clark's death and quickly linked 28-year-old Louis Stanley Leysath III of Waldorf to the murder.
The investigation revealed Clark, her two daughters and Leysath were at the apartment when Clark and Leysath began to argue about the use of Clark's vehicle. Police said the argument turned physical and Leysath threatened to choke Clark if she refused to give him her car keys.
The eldest daughter who called police, said she heard the argument and then saw Leysath leave the apartment with her mother's car keys. When she went into her mother's bedroom, she found her mother on the ground.
The investigation revealed that earlier in the night, around 10:18 pm, officers responded to a residence off of Westdale Court to a report of a man being disorderly and possibly under the influence of drugs. Officers found Leysath at the residence being disorderly and determined he was under the influence of drugs. Leysath was transported to Civista Medical Center for an emergency evaluation.
When Leysath was released from Civista, detectives arrested him.
Leysath was charged with second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
Jasmine Clark's children were uninjured during the incident and are being cared for by a relative.
