The National Weather Service (web|news) has canceled a Flood Watch for the region. The watch had been scheduled to last until noon.
The intensity of the rain was not enough to further fears of renewed flooding across the region.
The National Weather Service says the flood watch is for the District of Columbia, northern Virginia and portions of Maryland. The heaviest rain was expected between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.
But the rainfall is not expected to be as heavy as during the storms that lashed the mid-Atlantic region earlier this week. Those storms knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers, flooded roads and prompted evacuations.
The National Weather Service says up to 7 inches of rain fell in Calvert County, and about four inches fell in D.C. and northern Virginia between Sunday and Monday.
