The nation's elite military pilots have gathered at Andrews Air Force Base for this weekend's annual Joint Services Air Show.
Among those participating include the Navy's Blue Angels, the Marine Corps' AV-8B Harier, the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, and U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor, the world's most advanced fighter jet. There will also be plenty of civilian air show demonstrations.
The F-22, flown up from Langley AFB by Major Paul "Max" Moga, will perform an entirely new program this year. The $137.5 million airplane can reach speeds in excess of mach 2, but will be limited to .49 mach during the performance.
Friday's events were only opened to military personnel and children on school-sponsored trips. The air show is free Saturday and Sunday; it runs from 9 a.m. To 4:30 p.m.
Anyone hoping to get there must take a shuttle bus. You can catch them at at FedEx Field and at the Branch Ave Metro Station. The last bus will leave for Andrews AFB at 2:00 p.m. each day.
