Two tour buses on the George Washington Memorial Parkway collided Friday evening, snarling traffic and sending teens to the hospital.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m., the buses collided on the GW Parkway south of Route 123. One bus was traveling behind the second.
According to the United States Park Police, the lead bus stopped for traffic and the second bus rear ended the first. The accident disabled the first bus. The force of the accident pinched the door to the second bus closed and it had to be opened by emergency responders.
Teenage minors from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania were on board the buses. Twelve people were injured, but only seven were taken to area hospital. All of the injuries are not life-threatening.
The southbound lanes were closed and traffic diverted onto Route 123 while police investigated the accident. The lanes were reopened by 8:45 p.m.
