A spokeswoman says Sen. Edward Kennedy has been hospitalized after suffering a seizure.
Spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter says it does not appear that the Democrat had a stroke as initially suspected. She says he is undergoing tests at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to determine the cause of the seizure.
According to the office of the senator, "Sen. Kennedy went to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after feeling ill at his home. After discussion with his doctors in Boston, Sen. Kennedy was sent to Massachusetts General Hospital for further examination. He is currently under evaluation, and information will be released as it becomes available."
Kennedy, 76, has been in the Senate since election in 1962, filling out the term won by his brother, John F. Kennedy.
