(Sports Network) - Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap will undergo surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, general manager Kevin O'Connor announced Monday. Millsap suffered the injury in Utah's 108-105 loss to the Lakers this past Friday in Game 6 of their Western Conference semifinal series, which eliminated the Jazz from the playoffs.

Dr. Steven Huish confirmed the injury after Millsap sought a second opinion. Huish will perform the surgery on Thursday, and the Jazz will provide an estimated timeline of recovery Friday.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Millsap logged significant playing time for the Jazz in his second season with the team, averaging 20.8 minutes per game and appearing in all 82 contests with two starts. He averaged 8.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game during the 2007-08 regular season.

The Louisiana Tech product averaged 17.5 minutes per game in 12 playoff contests against the Rockets and Lakers. He averaged 6.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in the postseason.
