Route 29-Columbia Pike has reopened after multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Silver Spring.

Hovering overhead, NewsChopper 7 captured pictures of the five damaged vehicles involved in the collision. Emergency responders spent 10-15 minutes extricating the driver of one vehicle.

Three drivers were injured, one seriously. All three were taken to the hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at 7:54 a.m. on southbound Route 29 at Burnt Mills Avenue. The road was closed for nearly two hours, backing up traffic for more than a mile.

Rescuers work to extricate a driver.
The traffic backup extended for more than a mile after emergency responders closed all lanes of Route 29.
