A foundation named for a child who was found four years after he vanished while riding his bike has been reinstated after resolving a paperwork problem. The Shawn Hornbeck Foundation had failed to file an annual registration report with Missouri Secretary of State's office and was dissolved in December. Shawn's parents, Craig and Pam Akers, said they learned last week that paperwork had not been filed.

Secretary of state spokesman Ryan Hobart had said it's not uncommon for nonprofit foundations to be dissolved for failing to file the proper paperwork. The Hornbeck Foundation was dissolved once before, in 2006, and was then reinstated.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The foundation, which works to help families of missing children and prevent child abduction, was formed after Shawn Hornbeck, then 11, disappeared in October 2002 while riding his bicycle near his home in Richwoods, a rural community southwest of St. Louis.

In January 2007, Shawn and Ben Ownby, 13, were found by police in the Kirkwood apartment of Michael Devlin, four days after Ben went missing from near his rural Franklin County home. Devlin is serving multiple life sentences for kidnapping and abusing Shawn and Ben.

Both boys have largely avoided the spotlight since they were returned to their families.
