(Sports Network) - The University of Utah and head men's basketball coach Jim Boylen agreed to a new five-year contract on Tuesday.
Boylen's new salary will be $850,000 per year, with incentives increasing the figure to $1 million a season.
"We are excited about the direction our basketball program is going under Jim and are confident that the best is yet to come," said Utah athletics director Dr. Chris Hill. "Jim has shown a great deal of commitment and loyalty to this program and university. It was important to retain Jim not only for his coaching and recruiting skills, which are excellent, but for his tireless promoting of his sport and his commitment to his team's academics."
In two seasons guiding the Utes, Boylen has recorded a 42-25 record that included a Mountain West Conference tournament title this past season.
Utah was a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament last year but was upset in the first round by Arizona, 84-71.
"I have a passion and enthusiasm for University of Utah basketball and I am excited for what the future holds," Boylen said. "I am committed to taking this program to the highest level and this contract signifies the University's belief in me."
Boylen was formerly an assistant coach in the NBA for 13 seasons and spent two years as a Michigan State assistant before becoming Utah's head coach.
