(Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Reds have placed pitcher Nick Masset on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left oblique muscle.
The move is retroactive to May 11, meaning the right-hander is eligible to return May 26.
Masset has been one of Cincinnati's most effective relievers, with a record of 1-0 and a 1.23 earned run average in 11 appearances. He has not allowed a run in any of his last six games and has stranded all seven inherited baserunners.
The Reds filled the roster spot by recalling pitcher Ramon Ramirez from Triple-A Louisville. The right-hander has started seven games for Louisville this season and has a record of 0-3 with a 5.08 ERA.
Ramirez made his big league debut with Cincinnati last season and was 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five games, including four starts. He could be in line to make a start later this week with Edinson Volquez bothered by back spasms that forced him out of this past Saturday's game against San Diego.
The Reds also announced that left-hander Bill Bray underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday morning to have the ulnar collateral ligament repaired in his left elbow. He had been on Louisville's disabled list since April 16 and is expected to be sidelined for 10-12 months.
