WASHINGTON - D.C. police chased a minivan seen leaving the scene of a quadruple shooting in the District into Prince George's County, where it crashed at Riggs Road and East-West Highway in Hyattsville. Three people inside the van were taken into custody.

The van was reportedly seen leaving the scene of a shooting near the intersection of North Capitol and R streets NW. Police say a van pulled up about 4:40 p.m. and one person got out and opened fire on a group of people sitting in front of a building.

"Immediately following the shots that were fired, officers in the area who heard the shots observed a van speeding from the scene," D.C. police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said. "Officers pursued that van in a lengthy pursuit. That van was stopped and three people apprehended out in Prince George's County, Md. We do not know the association of this van with the shooting at this point."

Officers sustained minor injuries during the chase, ABC 7's Sam Ford reported.

Four people were wounded, at least one critically, in the shooting, Lanier said. She described the other people's injuries as non-life-threatening.

Chief Lanier said she and other officers were about a block away when the shooting happened.
