WASHINGTON - Want to get away this summer? The tough economy is making your summer vacation cheaper.

AAA Mid-Atlantic travel agent Kathy Burk says in her 26-year career, this summer's deals are about the best she's seen.

Some examples she has: "Cruise lines are offering two-for-one cruises with spa credits," she said. "The Paris in Las Vegas for 86 a night." And the capper: "I sold airfare round trip to the West Coast from Washington for $230."

According to Silver Spring resident George Ayoub, "Everything's cheaper, especially to Mexico with everything that's going on. You can find plane tickets for, like, 200 bucks."

That's because 14 million fewer people are expected to fly this summer. And the entire tourism industry from flights to hotels to restaurants and car rentals are cutting prices. Just look at any travel Web site and its long list of deals.

We found a 7-day Caribbean cruise for four, just $65 per person, per night (CLICK HERE). You can stay at Walt Disney World and your family eats all meals free (CLICK HERE). There are flights as low $29 (CLICK HERE). And Amtrak is cutting prices on the Northeast Corridor by 25 percent for the summer, that'll get you to New York for less than $50 (CLICK HERE) .

For the D.C. Region, people are still visiting. Tourism officials say 2009 is going to similar to 2008, helped by the fact that there are several major population centers within a short drive or short flight from the District. But they admit this year it's a tougher sell.

"They are going to travel closer to home, they are going to think more about value when they are traveling, and they going to spend less time traveling," said Bill Hanbury, the CEO of Destination D.C. "Those three things play really well into Washington, DC, as a destination.

And don't forget Virginia, some 200 business are offering up to 40 percent off if you want to turn your staycation into a little road trip (CLICK HERE)
