(Sports Network) - Brian Scott capitalized on a late-race pit strategy to win the AAA Insurance 200 on a day when tires wreaked havoc for several Camping World Truck Series drivers at Dover International Speedway.
During the 10th and final caution for separate accidents involving Kyle Busch and Colin Braun, Scott and crew chief Jeff Hensley elected to stay on the track and inherit the lead, while several of the leaders pitted for new tires.
"We knew we weren't going to pit," Hensley said. "We had a decent truck."
Scott's old tires held up for his first career Truck Series victory in his 39th start. The Boise, ID native led only the last 14 laps in the race that was postponed one day due to rain.
"God, it feels great, it's been a long-time coming," Scott said.
Scott became the 10th different winner in as many truck races at Dover. He also joined Scott Speed as the drivers whose first wins in the series came at the one-mile track. Speed won here one year ago.
It just wasn't Busch's day at Dover on Saturday.
Busch dominated the race with 133 laps led. While running in front with 17 laps to go, he slapped the wall after his tire exploded. Busch had complained of a vibration before the incident. He ended up finishing ninth.
Earlier in the day, Busch held the lead with two laps to go in the Nationwide Series race, but suffered a blown tire just before his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Joey Logano shoved him up the track. Busch led 108 laps before finishing in 17th in that event.
Braun held the second position when he also cut a tire and hit the wall at the same time of Busch's accident. That allowed David Starr to take the top spot, but Starr opted to pit.
Scott took over from there, and then held off Dennis Setzer, who also did not pit, in the remaining laps.
Setzer finished second for his best run since last September at Gateway.
"(Crew chief Randy Dean) changed this thing right before qualifying, got on something pretty good and then kept adjusting on it all day," Setzer said.
Starr wound up with a third-place finish, while Jason White came in fourth and Johnny Sauter crossed the line fifth.
Matt Crafton, Chad McCumbee and Mike Skinner finished sixth through eighth, respectively. Terry Cook completed the top-10.
Skinner trimmed Ron Hornaday Jr.'s lead in the point standings to 27 after Hornaday too cut a tire and made contact with the wall early in the race. He finished 26th.
Crafton trails Hornaday by 29 points.
At the half-way point, both Todd Bodine and James Buescher had tires go down. Buescher's cockpit caught on fire after he hit the wall. He escaped with no injuries.
