Maryland Senate Getting New Duct System for Wiring
posted 3:34 pm Sun June 10, 2007 - ANNAPOLIS, Md.
The floor of the Maryland Senate chamber is getting a makeover to improve its electrical system.
The project will help with the installation and maintenance of various cabling and wiring systems for Senate members' desks. In addition, the desks and the Senate president's 102-year-old rostrum will be refinished.
Senate President Mike Miller's office says the upgrades, plus new carpet, will cost roughly $400,000.
The cabling will support several gizmos, including microphones used during debate, devices for casting votes and telephones. There will also be electrical outlets so more equipment can be added later.
The project began in April, about a week after the General Assembly adjourned, and it's scheduled to be finished by September.
