Ford Motor Co. has completed the sale of its storied Jaguar and Land Rover businesses to India's Tata Motors Ltd.Tata said Monday it has closed on the deal first announced on March 26. Tata is paying about $2.3 billion for the British brands, but Ford is paying about $600 million into the Jaguar-Land Rover pension fund.

The sale nets the Dearborn-based automaker $1.7 billion — roughly a third of the price it paid for the two luxury brands.

Ford bought Jaguar for $2.5 billion in 1989 and Land Rover for $2.7 billion in 2000.

The sale had been in the works for months as cash-strapped Ford sought money to fund its turnaround plan.

ABC 7 Talkback: Ford completes sale of Jaguar, Land Rover to Tata Motors
Doublet Trouble
Unbeleivable. Ford is still making the wrong business decisions. Thye should have never bought the makers in the first place. Another mistake, which is going to cost them dearly, is the decision to contract Chinese makers for its auto parts. The quality of the vehicles will be at WAL-MART quality. I perdict that its shares will drop and customer loyality will drop. And ing the long run, it self will be sold to a forigen business, ot go the way of Oldsmobile. Out of Business. We Americans are our own worst enemy. We can beat the compeditor. But what I see is the lack of enthusiame in the design of the new cars. They are all boring. Only Pontiac and GMS are actually making fun cars. Soon, MADE in a AMERICA will be a thing of the past. You will only see it in documentries on the History Channel.
