(Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic and general manager Otis Smith agreed to a multi-year contract extension on Monday. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Smith, general manager since being promoted from assistant GM on May 3, 2006, has helped the Magic lock down future talent by signing center Dwight Howard to a contact extension, while also acquiring All-Star forward Rashard Lewis and selecting Stan Van Gundy as head coach.

"Otis has brought great energy, dedication, leadership and vision to our basketball operations," Magic president Bob Vander Weide said. "He has us moving in a very positive direction and toward our ultimate goal of winning an NBA championship."

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The extension comes fresh off Orlando's Southeast Division crown in the 2007-08 campaign and the club's first playoff series win since 1996. The Magic defeated Toronto in the first round before succumbing to the Detroit Pistons in the second round.

Prior to joining Orlando, Smith spent time as executive director of basketball operations for the Golden State Warriors. He also logged three years as a player for the Magic, starting with their inaugural season in 1989-90.

The Magic also announced the contract extension of assistant general manager Dave Twardzik.
