(Sports Network) - Tina Thompson finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, as the Houston Comets edged the San Antonio Silver Stars, 75-72, to pick up their first win of the season. Matee Ajavon had 15 points to go with seven boards, while Michelle Snow chipped in 12 points for Houston, which had lost its first five games of the season.
The Comets were able to stave off a similar start to the 2007 campaign, as they went 0-10.

Becky Hammon had a game-high 20 points, shot 4-of-8 from three-point range, and added seven assists for San Antonio, which has lost two in a row. Sophia Young scored 15, and Erin Buescher had 10 points and five boards.
In a back-and-forth game, Young's jumper with 6:08 left gave the Silver Stars a 63-62 edge. But Thompson drained a jumper of her own to trigger a six-point Comets burst.
Ajavon followed with a layup and two free throws to give Houston the lead, 68-63, with 3:17 remaining.
San Antonio never regained the lead, and with the game clock approaching one minute Shannon Johnson made a layup. An Ajavon jumper with just over half a minute left pushed the Comets' lead to 72-64, and Houston held on for the win.
