The University of Maryland basketball program has granted a release to 6-foot-9 forward Gus Gilchrist. The release could allow the Temple Hills native to play immediately at another school outside the Atlantic Coast Conference. Under ACC rules, he was required to sit out his first semester at Maryland because he asked Virginia Tech last year for a release from his letter of intent. Gilchrist was expected to play a major scoring role for the Terrapins. His release comes less than two weeks after junior-college transfer Tyree Evans asked for a similar release from Maryland.
