Detectives have identified the body of a woman that was found in the Potomac River.

The body was identified as 47-year-old Helen Johnstone. She was found just after 1 p.m. Wednesday floating in the Potomac River near the Virginia side of the river. Authorities believe she may have been hiking and slipped and fell into the water.

Members of the department's Harbor Branch responded to the scene and divers pulled the body from the water near Jack's Boat House.

"Middle-aged woman was found floating in the water about a quarter mile north of three sisters island. She was found by a canoer. The canoer flagged down some boats and they called Fire and EMS," said D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Scott Kane.

Sources told ABC 7 News, former television star, actress Lynda Carter, of 'Wonder Woman" fame, called 911 after seeing Johnstone's body floating north of the 3500 block of Water Street.

Carter had been out on the water rowing when it happened, but left the private Potomac boat club abruptly without giving comment.

Famous or not, anyone can come across a situation as this. It does not make it  a crime. There are 100 possibilities why this person ended up in the water. She may have drowned, she may have fell off of a boat, suicide maybe? It could have been a homicide as well, but why would anyone even think that just because Lynda Carter found the body, that she would have anything to do with it?

Ok, so no one has really come right out and said so, but I know people are wondering. Don't think that just because Lynda didn't have a cell phone that that alone would be a clue. That is nonsense. Anyone can be without a cell phone. Some people leave them at home, work, a friend's house, etc. And yes folks, there are some people who don't even own a cell phone.

Granted, I do not know Lynda Carter personally, but I am sure she most likely is not directly involved, other than discovering the body. (BTW - one really good way to determine this is to rule out any personal association between Carter and the victim.) I'm sure the investigators are doing their job.

Lynda seemed to handle the situation very well, yet I'm sure that this would be a nerve wracking experience for anyone in the same situation. God knows I'd be a mess if I found a dead body in a public place, but I'd definitely call authorities. It's enough for me to see a body at a funeral home, much less something like this.
