A mother and her teenage daughter are in custody, accused of plotting with the girl's boyfriend to kill her father, Manassas police said.
Police uncovered the alleged murder-for-hire plot after officers were called to the family's home in the 10000 block of Abbott Road about 1:00 a.m. on May 23 for the report of a burglary in progress.
The 36-year-old resident told police he had been awakened by his teenager daughter, who informed him of some noises in the backyard. When the man went to investigate, he was beaten about the head with a baseball bat. The victim was able to overpower his attacker and hold on to him until officers arrived, police said.
Officers arrested 19-year-old Thomas Bennett of Manassas at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that Bennett was dating the victim's 17-year-old daughter, police said. Investigators concluded that the victim's wife, 35-year-old April Blasini, and his daughter arranged with Bennett to murder the victim.
Bennett was charged with malicious wounding. He is being held without bond, pending a June 24th court date.
April Blasini and her 17-year-old daughter were arrested June 4 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder for hire and aggravated malicious wounding.
April Blasini is being held without bond. The 17-year-old daughter -- who was not identified because she is a juvenile -- is being held without bond in the Prince William County (web|news) Juvenile Detention Center.
