The town of Walkersville has formally denied a Muslim group the use of farmland for religious gatherings and started the clock ticking for a possible appeal.
The town's Board of Zoning Appeals voted unanimously Thursday night to approve the written record of its February decision denying a request by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA for an exception to zoning restrictions on 224 acres the group wants to buy.
The landowner's attorney has called the decision discriminatory and says he is considering an appeal or a federal civil-rights lawsuit.
A spokesman for the Muslim group says they are also studying the document.
Anyone objecting to the decision has until July 7th to file an appeal in Frederick County Circuit Court.
