The case against a teenager charged in a Hagerstown, Maryland, area bank robbery will be moved to juvenile court in exchange for the teen's testimony against his grandfather.
The 17-year-old grandson and 54-year-old David Shanton, both of Winchester, Virginia, were charged in an armed robbery at the M&T Bank branch on Dual Highway last October.
Authorities say 17 people in the bank were threatened with a shotgun. David Shanton is also accused of firing a shot at a responding law enforcement officer. While on the run, the suspects allegedly held a mother and child hostage in their apartment for six hours.
Under a deal approved by a Washington County judge on Monday, the teen's case was sent to juvenile court, where the penalties are less serious.
