Over three weeks, more than one hundred nine-pound funerary vases disappeared from Sunset Memorial Cemetary in Cumberland.

Cemetery manager Linda Shomaker said, "It's heartless because these people.. are so upset because this is someone they've laid to rest and now they can't even put flowers on in their memory."

Robert Cassady, whose family saw four of their vases stolen in one night, said, "It makes you mad most of all... You wonder what's wrong with people, why they do this kind of stuff."

On Wednesday, thirty-two-year-old David Wayne Baker turned himself in to the Cumberland Police Department. He has been charged with six counts of felony theft, one county of theft scheme and six counts of destruction of a funerary object, police say.

Authorities say Baker stole brass vases from local cemeteries and sold them to scrap dealers. More than 100 of the vases were recovered, police said.

As the vase from my Moms' grave was stolen, I'm glad to hear that someone was caught for the same type of crime.  I'm wondering how that person sold the vases, did they sell a few at a time, or?  Wherever they sell them, I can't imagine any LEGITIMATE scrap metal buyer not questioning where a private individual would obtain hundreds of vases.
