Fairfax City police say two people have been charged with heat-related crimes.

Police say 75-year-old James Trew of Burke was charged with felony neglect and abuse of a child after his 4-month-old grandson was found inside a locked car last week. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Patriot Harley-Davidson store on Fairfax Boulevard on June 3, when records show the outside temperature was 82 degrees. Police and store employees unlocked the car and took the infant inside.

On Tuesday, police noticed a dog inside a van parked near a gym on Main Street, and say a boy then approached the van and removed it.

An animal control officer reported that it was 94 degrees outside, and 118 degrees inside the van. The dog's owner, 33-year-old Natasha Casimir, of Lemoyne, Quebec, was issued a misdemeanor summons for providing inadequate shelter.
