(Sports Network) - Lisa Leslie recorded 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in the Los Angeles Sparks' 80-73 victory over the Detroit Shock at the Staples Center. Kiesha Brown and DeLisha Milton logged 13 points apiece in helping the Sparks improve to 5-2 on the season. Marie Ferdinand-Harris and Candace Parker contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the victors.

Katie Smith accounted for team-highs of 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, but Detroit connected on just 19-of-26 from the free throw line in its second straight setback. Deanna Nolan scored 14, and Plenette Pierson added 11 points and seven caroms off the bench.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Los Angeles took a slim 48-43 advantage in the break and extended the lead to eight points with just a quarter to play.

Neither team looked cohesive offensively in the final period, but Los Angeles hit its free throws down the stretch, finishing the game a perfect 24-for-24 at the charity stripe to seal the win.
