The Group of Eight industrialized nations should back a special fund of up to $10 billion to provide money for developing nations to fight global warming, a U.S. official said Friday.The threats of climate change and soaring oil and food prices were among the topics on hand at the G-8 finance ministers' meeting that opened Friday. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson appeared with his counterparts from Japan and Britain, as well as World Bank Group President Robert Zoellick, and urged nations to back the fund called Climate Investment Funds.
