Political Play: McCain party switcher

Sometimes a card and a necktie for Dad just won't do.
For Father's Day, Meghan McCain became a Republican. The 23-year-old daughter of presumed GOP presidential nominee John McCain (web|news|bio) marched into the State Capitol Executive Building in Phoenix, Ariz., Thursday and changed her party affiliation from Independent to Republican. It was a decision, she writes in her blog, that she reached "after careful thought and consideration."

"I did this as a symbol of my commitment to my dad and to represent the faith I have in his ability to be an effective leader for our country and to grow and strengthen the Republican party when he is elected President of the United States," she writes.
"Happy Father's Day, Dad!"
Meghan McCain also is working on a children's story about her father. The picture book, currently untitled, will be published the first week of September, around the time of the Republican national convention.
